Regional Tournament

The regional finals for Northeastern Kansas were held at Village Greens Country Club in Ozawkie, KS on Monday, May 16. The narrow fairways and water hazards took their toll on the Varsity Wamego Golf Team. They fought through the challenges to finish strong. Austin Waters was able to chip in for birdie on the par 3 16th, while Dane Stewart parred the par 5 17th even after going into the drink. Scrambling to score when things just aren't going your way is tough to do. Just like when things go wrong in life, it's easier to just give up. These guys didn't do that and that is why I'm proud of them. Wamego place 7th at regionals with a team score of 430. Sophomore, Luke Hannan had the team best on Monday of 103.

Individual Results show:
Luke Hannan 103
Braylon Simonson 106
Mason Stewart 109
Dane Stewart 112
Austin Waters 114
Trevor Lindley 120

Marysville Invitational

Another young player has made a splash on the Wamego Varsity Golf Team. Freshman Trevor Lindley was able to scratch his way into the top six last week in order to get a chance to compete in Marysville on May 3. Trevor was able to pull in a 103 for his first tournament. "I didn't feel like I played very well," Trevor commented, "but at least I parred the last hole so I could end on a positive note." Overall, the team played consistent on Tuesday, but not well enough to place. "It's a nice course," said coach Michael Petermann, "but we had some trouble staying out of the trees. That will eventually take you out of contention." May 9th is the NCKL tournament in Concordia for the WHS golf team, and Regionals will be held in Topeka at the Village Greens Golf Course on Monday the 16th. "Hopefully we can hit 'em straight enough to make it to state!" See the results tab above.
