A bitter-sweet end to the WHS Golf 6-man season culminated in Macpherson, Kansas on May 13th. On the positive side, two freshmen have qualified for the state tournament! Ryan Elder (77) shot +2 on the back to secure a 4-way tie for 4th. Parker Waters (79) pushed through a string of early bogeys to tie for 8th. The 4-man score (339) placed the team 4th behind Abilene (337), Buhler (311), and Hesston (310). Senior Ryan Helus (93) was hoping to repeat as a state qualifier, but a string of tough holes on the back 9 ended those dreams. He had a great career and Coach Petermann stated, “He was the backbone of our team for 3 years. A lot of our success is due to him.” Junior Dane Stewart (90) was hoping for his first state qualification, but his +15 front 9 was too much to overcome. Junior Trevor Lindley (97) and Sophomore Vance Lacey (106) played in their second regional qualifier, but are now looking forward to next year’s possibilities. It wasn’t the finish the team was hoping for, but the team did achieve the rest of their goals for the spring. They won 3 tournaments, including the NCKL championship.

NCKL Championship- RED RAIDERS WIN!!!
The most pristine day of the season was magnified by an NCKL Championship by the Red Raider Varsity Golf Team!!! Wamego (334) played well enough to win by 4 over the Abilene Cowboys (338). Freshman Ryan Elder (78) had to fight off 4 rough holes in order to tie for first; he would win the playoff hole with Abilene's Freshman Marcus Willey to take the Individual Gold Medal. Senior Ryan Helus (85) and Freshman Parker Waters (85) tied for 6th. Parker won the playoff to take the bitter-sweet medal from his teammate. Junior Dane Stewart came in 7th with a clutch (86) to seal the deal. Senior Austin Waters (95) played solid in his last meet while Junior Trevor Lindley (112) struggled to find success, but hopes to rebound for Regionals next Monday May 13th in Macpherson. Tee times for 4A regionals will be posted on the web page: www.wamegohighgolf.blogspot.com. Don’t forget to follow us on Twitter: @WamegoHSGolf ...and GO BIG RED!!!
