Left: Dane Stewart tees off on #11 at Rolling Hills in Junction City
Red Raiders placed 5th
today against new and tougher competition at the St. Mary's Invite in Junction
City at Rolling Meadows Golf Course. This heavily wooded 18-hole course
hosted 11 teams, including regional powerhouses Jeff West, Holton, and Sabetha.
The trees caused some problems but a new face has pushed his way into the
forefront. A self-proclaimed Rolling Meadow Rugrat, Nick Webb, shot a
personal best 84 placing 18th in the tourney. He claims he grew up on the
course and took advantage of his knowledge to score on several holes.
Ryan Helus shot an 89, the only Red Raider to shoot 90 or below in all
tournaments this spring. Continuing to improve and shine is Freshman
Vance Lacey who (after birdieing the par 3 16th to end the round) tied for 3rd
for Wamego with steady Sophomore Dane Stewart who also shot a 91. Austin
Waters (97) got into trouble in the first 4 holes but scrambled together a
strong back 9. Senior Mason Stewart has been able to keep things going
and rallied late for a 101.
