Sophomore Trevor Lindley drives to the
creek on the dog-leg par 4 #1 in Marysville.
Chasing the ghost of last year’s 4th place finish at NCKL, Wamego Golf took another step forward this year, placing 3rd behind Concordia and Abilene. Shooting a 372 without sophomore Dane Stewart or junior Austin Waters, Wamego finished only 6 shots out of second behind Concordia. Abilene ran away with the championship with a 341. Senior Mason Stewart righted the ship and shot a season best 93, as Junior Ryan Helus and Freshman Vance Lacey were able to hold on to 92s, despite a rough start. Junior Nick Webb, who shot an 85 at Marysville last week, struggled with the par 3s, but still managed a 95. Next Monday is Regionals in Holton. With one last hurdle this season has been a great step forward as last year’s young team has now earned the title: Veterans. Hopefully, next year they’ll earn a new title: Champions.  Also, Wamego’s JV golf team placed 2nd in Concordia on Monday in the NCKL JV championship comprised of Senior Nathan May, Sophomore Matt Roudybush, Junior Paul Hartwich, Junior Kyle Wilson, and Junior Luke Hannan. The team was without the two sophomores Kyle Mueller and Trevor Lindley who played up for the two missing Varsity starters. Abilene placed first and Concordia placed 3rd.
