Junior Matt Roudybush putts for par on the par 4 #1

It was an amazing day at Wamego Golf Course on Tuesday, April 2^nd.  Freshman Ryan Elder (72) and Parker Waters (76) placed 1^st and 2^nd respectively in their first Varsity golf meet.  Junior Dane Stewart (86) was able to place in the top 10.  There superb efforts elevated Wamego to first in the 2 man pairing, and 3^rd in the 4-man pairing.  Wamego also placed 1^st in the 6 man event.  All scorers shot under 100 for the Red Raiders:  Seniors Ryan Helus (90), Nick Webb (96), and Austin Waters (99).  When taking the top 4 scores, which is how it will be scored for NCKL Championships and Regionals, Wamego topped all other teams by over 20 strokes.  “I still left a lot out on the course,” said Freshman Ryan Elder, “I lipped out 3 birdie putts.” After shotgun starting on #15, Dane Stewart was able to right the ship despite double bogeying the par 5 #16 and par 4 #18 by shooting just above par golf the rest of the way. Senior Ryan Helus wasn’t happy with his performance but knows it will come together eventually,  “I was able to putt really well…I just need to straighten out my tee-shots.” Coach Petermann noted, “The team competed today with only a handful of official practices.  The weather has kept the course closed for much of the pre-season, so the scores should continue to drop.  Keep an eye out for this squad, they aren’t going anywhere but up.”
